Duden Antalya – Turkey

In Antalya, one of the most interesting points of attraction is the Upper Duden Falls. In fact, there are two waterfalls with the same name, the upper one and the lower one. The first one is in the Northern side of the town, the other one is in the south, where Duden river falls into the sea. The last waterfall is more spectacular seen from the sea and there are a lot of boats with short trips to see the waterfall. But I’m going to describe the Upper Duden Falls.
You can reach Upper Duden Falls by car (a GPS is recommended) or by taxi. They don’t make special trips to this waterfall. This waterfall is promoted very weak, even my opinion is that it is one of the most see attractions in Antalya.
If you go by car, the parking costs 2.50 lira. The entrance in the waterfalls’ park is 2.50 lira for adults and 1.50 lira for kids over 6 years old. Children under 6 have free entrance.
From the entrance you will be astonished by the vegetation (that is in contrast with the town) and a cool air wave. Crossing the bridge over the Duden river, on the left side, you start to go down on stairs. On the right side, you will see the marvellous waterfall. Here, you will also see a lot of benches and tables where you can serve your meal or rest while watching the waterfall. As you will go down to the base of the waterfall, the temperature will decrease about 5 degrees, a well-coming thing in the hot Southern Turkey. When you reach the most lower part of the park, you will cross again the river and you can go back, directly to the waterfall. Depending on the sun rays, the kids can see a very nice rainbow, and, for sure, you will get wet by the thousands of water drops in the air. Here you can get near the waterfall, where you can admire its beauty and also the transparent water.

From this point, some stairs go up, through a cave (carved by men). You can go through the cave until the back of the waterfall. The cave has “windows” to the waterfall, where the landscape is beautiful.
The exit from the cave is on other stairs that go up. Here, on the top of the waterfall, you will find a lot of souvenirs and hot and cold food and drinks.
You can go also the other way round, but the way recommended by me is more spectacular.
On the park exit, near the parking lot, do not forget to put your kids to ride the camels. These are the cheapest camel rides I could find for a few minutes walk. After negotiating, the price was 6 lira (~3 euro), much cheaper than 10 -15 euro as they ask on hotels, on turkish nights.
I would recommend that you have turkish lira cash. You will find a cash machine in the parking lot. In the park, you have, also free water and free toilet.
